Kim Mulkey Suspended for Criticizing Referees

By Erin 0

Kim Mulkey, Baylor’s women’s basketball coach, was suspended for her team’s next N.C.A.A. tournament game for criticizing the officiating after a loss to Louisville last spring. The N.C.A.A. also reprimanded Mulkey. After Louisville upset top-seeded Baylor, 82-81, in March, Mulkey said the game was far too physical and she singled out the officials. The N.C.A.A. said it was issuing a more severe penalty because Mulkey was a repeat offender.

A former New Orleans baseball coach, Ron Maestri, has come out of retirement to coach the team again. Maestri, 72, coached New Orleans’s only College World Series team in 1984 and was 518-247-1 from 1972 to 1985. New Orleans was 7-44 last season.
