Ocean Discovered on Mars

By Erin 0

Mar is the red planet. It is the closest thing to earth that can be said to have once possessed a climate and even some possible specimens of life. The experts who have studied it have found striking similarities between the canals on the surface of Mars and the Don Juan Pond in Antarctica. This is a place where the water flows freely according to Space.com.

The rest of Antarctica is frozen. The reason may be the structure as well as the extreme saltiness of the water that prevents it from being frozen. Whatever the case, the clues gathered from Don Juan Pond have provided scientists with evidence that a similar process may have played itself out on the surface of Mars.

Already chloride salts have been discovered on Mars. They are proof of the fact that once upon a time a whole ocean may have existed on the planet. While this probably took place billions of years ago, it points to the existence of life on Mars.

The water on Mars is frozen, very salty or amalgamated with minerals. The polar caps are frozen too. There is no evidence of freely flowing water in the liquid state. Scientists are fascinated by the Red Planet and want to know more about it. There is every reason to believe that life once existed on its surface.
