Like most Hollywood stars, Robert Pattinson finds filming love scenes awkward.

And it certainly looked like the actor was feeling a bit embarrassed as he shot a passionate sequence with new co-star Mia Wasikowska.

The Brit, 27, and Australian actress were spotted kissing and groping each other as they lay on the ruins of her character's former house as they filmed scenes for Maps To The Stars.

Wearing a black suit, Rob lay on the ground kissing and stroking Mia, whose character was fully succumbing to his attempts at seduction.

The actors ended up working up to the scene in four takes, and had to repeat their kissing scenes several times to be captured from different camera angles.

During a break, Rob and Mia burst into laugher at the awkwardness of faking intimacy for the cameras.

The film sees Twilight actor Rob portraying Jerome, a limousine driver and aspiring actor who befriends pyromaniac Agatha, portrayed by Mia.

Of course, Rob is no stranger to love scenes, having filmed many with his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart for the Twilight franchise.

He said in an interview last year: 'It's always awkward, in a way, doing it with anybody.

'But at the same time... it really depends on how it's staged and stuff. It's like doing Twister.'

Both of the rising stars were on the set shooting scenes for the film directed by David Cronenberg.

Robert wore black trousers, a crisp long-sleeved white dress shirt, and a black sports coat.

Mia looked typically cute with her short dirty blonde haircut and effortlessly was pulling off a fringe.

She was wearing an all-black ensemble of skinny pants and a long-sleeved sweater and also donned black gloves.

Also starring in the ensemble drama are Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Carrie Fisher and Sarah Gadon.

The film marked the second consecutive project that Robert has partnered with the dark director following the drama Cosmopolis.

The film about the trappings of Hollywood was being filmed in Hollywood itself and was the first time Cronenberg has filmed in America.

The independent satirical drama was stuck in development for around six years, but finally got the green light this year and began production in July.

Map To The Stars is expected to be released in 2014.
