Liverpool football starlet Raheem Sterling has pleaded not guilty to allegedly assaulting his beauty queen girlfriend.
The 18-year-old was arrested by police following an alleged violent bust-up with model Shana Ann Rose, 19, in the Page Moss area of Merseyside at around 10.30pm on Thursday.
The alleged fracas happened just hours after the winger was called up into Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Sterling, from Woolton, was charged with common assault and remanded in custody overnight on Thursday.
After spending the night in the cells, he appeared in the dock at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court earlier today.
He pleaded not guilty to one charge of Section 39 common assault and his case was adjourned for a trial in September.
Liverpool teenager Sterling returns to the international fold after recovering from the thigh injury that cut his 2012-13 campaign short.
Sterling, who missed England’s disastrous campaign at June’s Under-21 European Championship because of the injury, has been described as being in excellent shape ahead of the new season by Reds boss Brenden Rodgers.
