Summer football guide: Ten big pre-season friendlies you should watch ahead of the new season

We've seen Andy Murray triumph at Wimbledon and the Lions produce an exceptional display in Australia, but now it's the turn of football once again.
Teams are back in training, managers are scouring the world for new talent and money is being exchanged between clubs as the transfer window reopens.
And now it's time for the friendlies to begin.
To help you get the most from your summer viewing, we've come up with the matches you shouldn't miss over the coming weeks.
Get your diaries out and scribble away...
1) Bournemouth v Real Madrid, Sunday July 21, 7.45pm

Carlo Ancelotti will arrive at Dean Court on Jule 21 for his first game in charge of Real Madrid.
Already Cherries' fans are unhappy - and that's before they probably end up on the receiving end of a tonking.
The hiked £60 tickets have been blasted by supporter's groups. Especially as it will probably be a second-string Real team.

2) Arsenal v Galatasaray (Emirates Cup), Sunday August 4, 4.20pm
Didier Drogba will get the chance to terrorise the Gunners defence just like old times as he and his Galatasaray chums visit for the Emirates Cup.
Napoli and Porto are the other teams taking part - as well as Arsenal, obviously- over the two-day tournament.
The Gunners have won th Emirates Cup three times since 2007, which, you know, is something .

3) Manchester City v South China (Barclays Asia Trophy), July 24, 12.30pm
Since 2004 a cluster of Premier League teams have been sent over to Asia to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy.
This year it's Manchester City, Sunderland and Tottenham with South China getting the nod as the local representative.
Pick of the bunch is probably City v South China - only cos the other game is Spurs v Sunderland.

4) Singha All Star XI v Manchester United, Saturday July 13, 2pm

David Moyes' first game as manager of Manchester United is against a Thailand all-star team.
The game - at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok - is already sold out with fans keen to see stars like Wayne Rooney et al.
When the United players stepped off the plane in Bangkok they were mobbed, just like ruddy pop stars.

5) Singha All Star XI v Chelsea, Wednesday July 17, 2pm
Coincidentally, Jose Mourinho's first game back as Chelsea boss is also against a Singha All Star team, also in Bangkok.
So Thailand's best spoil the start of both Moyes & Mourinho's new spells - although something tells us they won't.
Blues fans will get the chance to see new signings Andre Schurrle, Marco van Ginkel and Mark Schwarzer as Mourinho confirmed they will travel with the squad to Asia.

6) Supersport United v Manchester City, Sunday July 14, 2pm

Manuel Pellegrini's first game in charge of Man City will be taking place this weekend as part of the club's tour of South Africa.
The new boss has promised attacking football and has already brought in Fernandinho and Jesus Navas.
And we may get some insight into what the Chilean is thinking for the coming season in this first 90 minutes.

7) FC Bayern Munich v FC Barcelona, July 24, 7.30pm
Both teams will be competing in this charity match for the Uli Hoeness Cup.
But all eyes will be on Pep Guardiola, who takes charge of Bayern Munich against his former side.
And despite being a friendly, it should be a gripping tie.

8) Liverpool v Olympiakos, August 3, 12.45pm

The Reds entertain the Greek side next month for Steven Gerrard's testimonial, celebrating the Englishman's one-club career.
All money raised from the event goes to the Steven Gerrard Foundation.
And it's also a chance to take an early look at how BT Sport will be broadcasting football next season.

9) Leicester City v Monaco, July 27, 3.45pm
Another of the quirkier friendly fixtures this summer comes from the Walkers Stadium as both sides warm up for their respective seasons.
The Ligue 2 champions signed Radamel Falcao for around £53million in the close season.
But Leicester will be doing all they can to make it a game to remember this summer.

10) St Mirren v Newcastle United, July 30, 7.30pm
Battle of the black-and-white stripes takes place at St Mirren Park this month in one of Newcastle's nearest pre-season matches.
And the Scottish club has been told that Alan Pardew will be bringing a mix of first-teamers and youngsters.
But with all the furore over Joe Kinnear this summer, this one could be a match to keep an eye on.
