The Red Devils could unveil the Dutch coach imminently and we've rounded up all the latest happenings at Old Trafford

It was a season to forget for Manchester United.

The Red Devils finished with their lowest-ever Premier League points tally and ended the campaign in seventh - 22 points behind fierce local rivals and eventual champions Manchester City.

David Moyes was sacked as manager last month, and Ryan Giggs has since vacated his role as interim boss.

With Louis van Gaal likely to be announced as the next manager soon, we've rounded up all the latest news and gossip surrounding the Old Trafford side.

Thursday's Manchester United stories from the Daily Mirror

Our man David McDonnell has reported that Van Gaal is understood to have signed a £7m-a-year deal at Old Trafford.

Giggs is expected to stay on as the Dutchman's No.2 after the 40-year-old met with the Netherlands coach on Wednesday afternoon in Noordwijk.

Working alongside Van Gaal is seen as the perfect preparation for Giggs to take on the United job himself when the 62-year-old former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach decides to move on.

It is understood Van Gaal has signed a two-year deal - with an option for a third - to succeed the sacked Moyes.

Meanwhile, United's executive vice chairman Ed Woodward refused to commit to the reports that Van Gaal will be the next United boss.

Asked about the Netherland boss' potential arrival by Sky Sports, Woodward said: "I've got nothing to say at this point I'm afriad."

However, Goal.com have claimed that Van Gaal has already started shaping his backroom staff with former United stopper Edwin van der Sar set to be offered a goalkeeping coach's role.

Van der Sar was offered the position by Sir Alex Ferguson before his retirement, but the stopper chose to spend more time with his family.

Another of Van Gaal's trusted disciples Edgar Davids has given his former boss a glowing recommendation.

The former Juventus midfielder said: "United should take him. I worked with him a long time ago, but he's a top manager.

"He goes into a club and he puts in the structure. He did it by putting in a foundation of young players at Barcelona and Bayern Munich and look at the results."

Davids was part of Van Gaal's Ajax side that won the Champions League in 1995.
